Senior Software Engineer

The engineering team at HarQen is looking for a senior software engineer to join the family. Our work directly affects all HarQen does, so our culture centers on empowerment. The software we build today can be released in just a few weeks time to thousands of users, so we have the freedom—and responsibility—to do everything it takes to get the job done.

HarQen is developing the next generation of web and phone interactions. In the arms race to empower the individual, we want to bring voice to the web. We create tools that let people capture and manage their own voice communications. Our systems use the best current generation of open source software available: Linux, Java, Spring, FreeSwitch, Python, Lua, virtualization, unstructured storage frameworks and whatever else is needed to get the job done.

A set of core beliefs guide our engineering team. We get more satisfaction out of removing code than adding it. We value simplicity. We like to test our code (but aren't TDD robots). We work really fast. We’re comfortable learning new techniques or new languages if it’s the best solution.

We are looking for a driven Senior Software Engineer to join our team who shares similar values and would enjoy working with our startup to build something great.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and support our existing applications, primarily in Java
• Self-directed development with minimal guidance / overhead
• Write code today that will be released in production to thousands of users in 3 weeks (know what is needed to be confident that your code is solid)
• Scaling, understand how bottlenecks occur and design to resolve
• Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies
• Interface with external systems via APIs
• Write and maintain external facing web APIs
• Secure any common web vulnerabilities with best practice
• Work with the network stack and novel big data storage systems

Requirements

• Past experience with massive web applications, preferably Java/Spring projects
• Desire to kick some butt
